The Vivaro engine is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that was developed by Vauxhall Motors for use in its Vivaro and Movano vans. It is available in both a natural gas and a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) version. The engine has a cast iron block and aluminium cylinder head with double overhead camshafts (DOHC) and four valves per cylinder. It is fitted with a Garrett T2 turbocharger and a Bosch Motronic ME7.5 engine management system.
The Vivaro engine has been widely criticised for a number of issues, including oil consumption, turbocharger failure and engine overheating. These issues have been well documented on a number of online forums, such as the Vauxhall Vivaro Owners Club.
In September 2015, Vauxhall issued a voluntary recall of all Vivaro and Movano vans fitted with the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, due to a potential issue with the engine’s oil cooler. This issue could potentially lead to engine overheating and failure.
If you own a Vivaro or Movano van fitted with the 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine, we recommend that you check with your local Vauxhall dealer to see if your vehicle is affected by the recall.

If you’re looking to sell your van, you may want to consider selling it to a UK-based company called WeBuyBrokenVans. They specialize in buying broken vans and repairing them. One of the most common problems they see with vans is engine trouble. If your van has a Vivaro engine, it’s likely that WeBuyBrokenVans will be interested in buying it from you. The Ford Transit engine is another engine that WeBuyBrokenVans often purchases. So if you’re looking to sell your van, and it has either of these engines, WeBuyBrokenVans is a great option.
